Overview
This guide
provides detailed step-by-step directions on how to use any video
file to create a CD-R/CD-RW that can be played on any PC or stand-alone
console DVD player (depending on DVD player compatibility) by using the
VCD format.
What is
VCD?
VCD (Video
CD) is a standard for creating video onto CD-R/CD-RW discs. It functions
much like a DVD but with a slightly lower quality, particularly when there
is fast movement in the video, such as action scenes. Additionally, since
a CD-R/CD-RW has a smaller capacity than a DVD you can only store a maximum
of 80 minutes of VCD video onto a single 700MB CD-R. However, even with
these limitations VCD has a wide range of uses. It is excellent for copying
home movies created on VHS or 8mm, or copying video files downloaded from
the internet, to a format that you can share and play on a stand-alone
DVD player.
How It Works
This guide
provides in-depth instructions on how to convert your video to VCD using
the following process.
- Uses TMPG
Enc to convert your video files into a DVD compatible format using the
VCD format.
- Uses TMPG
Enc to merge multiple video files into one large file or to cut large
files into smaller ones.
- Uses Nero
(recommended) to burn the video file(s) onto a DVD compatible CD-R/CD-RW
using the VCD format.
